Island going into further lockdown

Borders to close to all arrivals

The Isle of Man is set to go into further lockdown from this evening.

Commercial and private flights in and out will cease (except the mail plane and for medical emergencies), and most shops will shut.

Essential ones such as food shops, supermarkets, pharmacies, garages and pet stores will be allowed to stay open, though.

Meanwhile, the overnight Ben-my-Chree sailing, due in at 6am tomorrow, will be the last one carrying passengers until further notice; freight will still be coming in, though.

You're also being urged to only go out when absolutely necessary, while anyone caught flouting the social distancing regulations will be fined £30 on the spot. 

Speaking at the most recent media briefing conducted by the government, Chief Minister Howard Quayle concluded his opening speech with this plea to the Manx public:
