An inquest into the death of a prisoner at Jurby jail today revealed an insight into his teenage years.
26-year old Michael Davidson of Douglas died of a drug overdose whilst on remand in March 2012.
The court heard from Dr Kirsten Wafer, a consultant psychiatrist for the Drug and Alcohol team, which had been helping Mr Davidson.
Dr Wafer told the court about Mr Davidson’s meetings with the Drug and Alcohol team, revealing he was addicted to opiates and anti-depressants.
At an initial assessment in March 2011, he told staff his drug use began at the age of 12 when he abused alcohol and cannabis.
He was taken into care at 13, and Dr Wafer said he came from a family of heavy drinkers.
The court heard he had repeatedly used heroin, Subutex, and crack cocaine.
