Inflation creeps up again

Inflation rose on the Island again last month.

It stood at 1.9% at the end of July as shown by the Consumer Prices Index, up from 1.8% in June.

Using the Retail Prices Index, inflation was up 0.2% to 3.0 %

However, excluding housing costs, the annual rate of inflation shown by the RPI has again decreased, standing at 2.3% for July down from June’s figure of 2.4%.

The RPI figures also show alcohol dropped 5.8% over the last month, while personal goods and services increased 3.2%

Over the last twelve months figures show milk products have risen almost 11% and rents have gone up almost 20% as shown by the CPI index. There was better news for consumers on the food front with eggs down just under 18% and potatoes down almost 30%
