Awards make Douglas 'more attractive town'

Green-fingered residents of Douglas are being urged to enter a borough-wide awards scheme next year.

Judges at this year's Douglas in Bloom competition hailed it as one of the best with 'truly fabulous entries'.

At the presentations in Noble's Park pavilion, Regeneration and Community Committee Chairman Stephen Pitts said during their tour, judges had noticed many gardens of a high standard, which hadn't been entered in the 2017 'In Bloom'.

Awards were given in a range of categories, for spaces large or small.

Among the winners, Susan Dobinson from St Helier's in the Hotels and Guesthouses without Gardens category, and Paul Davies for his display at Westminster Drive, in the Private Houses with Gardens section.

Ballacottier primary school won the award for the best public or community garden.

There were honours too, for most improved and productive allotments, most imaginative flower display, secret garden, and best Douglas Council property.

Councillor Pitts thanked all who entered for making Douglas "a greener, more attractive town".
