"I am a survivor, I don't want to see myself as a victim"

Triple amputee Corporal Andy Reid shares war experiences with IoM audience

In 2009, Corporal Andy Reid stood on a pressure plate improvised explosive device (an IED) whilst on patrol with the 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment in Afghanistan.

As a result of the explosion, he lost his right leg below the knee, left leg above the knee, and right arm.

But in his words, he immediately saw himself as a survivor, not a victim.

The veteran has been on the Isle of Man spreading his inspiring message to veterans, and interested parties alike, at the Manx Legion.

His services are to be honoured by the Queen later in the year, by being awarded an MBE.
