Hospice founder to receive Tynwald Honour

The highest honour the Manx parliament can bestow on an individual will this year go to the founder of the Island's hospice, Nadene Crowther.

Nadene led a dedicated group of volunteers who shared a vision for better care for the terminally ill.

The Island's first hospice, St Bridget's, opened in 1988 largely thanks to her efforts, drive and vision.

Since then hospice has moved to luxury new premises near Noble's hospital, offering a wide range of palliative and home-based care for patients and their families.

Nadene Crowther's nomination - which will be bestowed on Tywnald Day in July - was unanimously backed by Tywnald court yesterday.

She says she's thrilled at the honour - and paid tribute to the volunteers who were with her all the way:
