Unfair claims union: be flexible urges DoI

Bus drivers claim their holiday is 'unfairly' being allocated to them by the Department of Infrastructure.

Unite members employed by Bus Vannin are staging a work-to-rule this week, in protest at the DoI's plan to limit the number of drivers who can take holiday during TT fortnight.

The action was called after talks between government and union leaders broke down.

Unite claims the department also wants drivers to take annual leave outside of the main school holiday periods, including in the winter.

The DoI says Unite's overtime ban has had no impact on scheduled services so far.

Minister Ray Harmer says proposed changes to holiday allocation are within existing staff agreements - and more flexibility is needed to run a public bus service.
