Health report welcomed by patient support charity

Criticisms 'need to be addressed urgently'

The Isle of Man Health and Care Association has welcomed Sir Jonathan Michael's vision for the future of health service provision on the Isle of Man.

In a statement, the patient support charity says it's particularly welcoming of the proposed creation of a division between strategy and service delivery.

The statement goes on to voice support for the establishment of 'Manx Care,' which will be responsible for delivery and commissioning of services - independent of both government and Tynwald.

However, the association says Sir Jonathan Michael's criticisms of the current service are valid and need to be addressed urgently.

It supports the "highly skilled, dedicated workforce that are desperate for change away from the currently accepted mediocrity and even failure to provide an adequate health service."

Finally, the IOMHACA says it's "the only free, charitable organisation providing patient support when they have been affected by this mediocrity or failure, and is the only source of independent external governance."
