Govt won't commit to living wage yet

Follows approval for voluntary hourly rate

Government says more investigation is needed before it can commit to paying its own staff the Manx Living Wage.

Tynwald last week approved in principle a voluntary hourly rate of £8.61 - that's £1.11 higher than the current minimum wage.

However, it was also revealed more than a hundred staff employed by government are paid below the suggested figure.

Policy and Reform Minister, Chris Thomas, insists it's being looked at as part of ongoing pay reviews - but says inflating pay too soon could have unintended consequences:
