Girl rescued by lifeboat crew out on routine exercise

12 year old got into difficulties near Kallow Point

A routine exercise turned into what's been described as a 'life-saving operation' for the RNLI on Tuesday night.

A life boat crew from Port St Mary was training out at sea when they spotted four girls swimming between Kallow Point and Perwick Bay - an area known for its strong currents.

As Helmsman Morgan Guy was keeping an eye on them when one of the girls, aged 12, began to struggle in the water.

The boat went over and a crew member jumped in to the girls aid, who’s said to be ‘no worse for the ordeal’.

Helmsman Guy said: ‘It’s an important reminder how important it is for families to prepare before going to the coast on their holidays.

‘[They] should make sure they have appropriate knowledge of the sea and can contact the shore in case of emergency’.
