Flume injuries started 3 weeks before closure

One swimmer advised to attend A&E

A series of injuries that led to the closure of one of the flumes at the NSC started three weeks before the water slide was closed.

The Department of Education, Sport and Culture announced one of the slides was to close on New Year’s Day amidst concerns over injuries caused to some swimmers.

A Freedom of Information request submitted by Manx Radio shows five swimmers were injured on the flume between 10 and 20 December.

A further six have suffered slips or falls on the staircase and platform from 10 December and 5 January.

All received first aid at the site, with one advised by staff to attend A&E, although no ambulances have been called to the sports facility.

Contractors are due on Island next week to begin work to rectify the issues.
