Fire extinguished in Port St Mary flat

Pans left unattended on kitchen hob

Firefighters tackled a flat fire in Port St Mary last night (15 August).

A passer-by called emergency services to a property pouring thick black smoke from a top floor window at around 7:30pm.

Occupants of the flat evacuated and waited outside for assistance to arrive.

Crews from Douglas, Castletown and Port Erin worked to extinguish the blaze - which started when pans were left unattended on the kitchen hob.

Although one of the residents received oxygen therapy from paramedics at the scene - no-one was injured in the incident.
