53-year-old resisted arrest at police station
A Ramsey man who entered a police station and asked officers to taser him has been fined £530.
Martin Read, of Waterloo Road, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he admitted being drunk in public and resisting arrest.
The 53-year-old went to Ramsey Police Station at 7.40am on 9 December last year; he approached the public counter and told the officer he wanted to be tasered.
Following concerns for his safety officers attempted to arrest him but Read began kicking out and swearing and shouting; PAVA incapacitant spray and leg restraints had to be used.
The court heard it took six officers to gain compliance of Read who was describing them as ‘paedophile protectors’.
Read’s advocate told the court his client was experiencing mental health difficulties at the time adding: “The police were rightly concerned by my client’s state. He is apologetic.”
Fining Read, and ordering him to pay £300 in prosecution costs, Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him the officers had acted out of concern for his welfare.
