Financial incentives for Island tree planters

Government action in fight against climate change

Landowners are being encouraged to plant trees to help the Isle of Man's fight against climate change.

The Woodlands Grant Scheme is part of government plans to achieve next zero emissions by 2050.

Eligible landowners will be offered grants to create and maintain wooded areas of up to £4,880 per hectare over five years.

Extra support would also be given to cover maintenance each year for sites of up to 10 hectares per claim.

Planning permission is required - each woodland must stay in place for at least 30 years and be regularly inspected.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is hoping to launch the scheme fully later this year.
