Final lap for George Costain

Guard of honour set for S100 start line

A Manxman described as a ‘larger than life character’ and a ‘true gentlemen’ will be remembered today (Friday).

A celebration of the life of George Costain, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 89, is to be held at Arbory Parish Church in Ballabeg at midday.

It will be preceded at 9.15 this morning by a lap of the Billown course where friends will form a guard of honour at the start line.

George Costain won the 1954 Senior Manx Grand Prix, founded the Isle of Man Clay Pigeon Shooting Club and was well-known for running a butchery business in Castletown.

Club president David Morgan says he will be fondly remembered by many.
