Extensive public engagement to address NI fund shortfall

Input from the Manx public will form part of the solution to the one of the toughest economic challenges the Island has faced in recent years.  

That from Policy and Reform minister Chris Robertshaw during a debate in Tywnald on the diminishing National Insurance fund.

A five year review by the UK Government Actuary predicts the fund will run out by the mid 2050s, if benefits continue to be paid as now and national insurance rates are pegged.

Mr Robertshaw said the figures present a 'profound and fundamental' problem affecting the lives of everyone on the Island.

He said government was planning to engage with the public over the solutions, as never before:
