Drunk, pregnant woman kicked police, court hears

Assault and provoking behaviour admitted

A court’s heard a pregnant woman got drunk before kicking out at police officers after she was arrested.

Thirty-eight-year-old Stacey Ann Robina Ashton, of Hillside Avenue in Douglas, admitted using provoking behaviour and carrying out an assault on a police officer.

Magistrates at Douglas courthouse heard police went to a flat on Woodbourne Square on 16 February on an unrelated matter.

But Ashton turned up outside the building, and became abusive and belligerent, before having to be physically restrained.

The court heard Ashton was drunk, and struggled with officers until they had to carry her down a flight of stairs to put her in a police vehicle.

Later, as she arrived at police headquarters, she kicked one of the officers as she was being dealt with in the custody suite.

Her advocate requested a social enquiry report be prepared before she is sentenced.

Ashton, who’s expecting a baby in July, was granted bail and will appear in court again on 20 June.
