Driving ban for man who was 0.1mcg over legal limit

25-year-old admits drug driving

A Castletown man who was 0.1 micrograms over the drug drive limit has been banned from the road.

Charlie Vernon, of Pickard Close, was stopped by police on the New Castletown Road on 4 February.

Officers had spotted a defective light on his Toyota but when they spoke to him they smelt cannabis and noted the 25-year-old’s eyes were glazed.

A drug wipe test was carried out – Vernon was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters; subsequent tests showed he was over the legal limit.

At Douglas Courthouse he admitted the offence – the prosecutor told the court: “Clearly it’s dangerous to have drugs in your system when driving.”

Magistrates fined him £1,000, and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £125, telling Vernon: “Taking drugs and driving is a serious offence.”

Vernon will remain disqualified from driving for two years and until he’s taken and passed and extended driving test.
