Drink driving grandad banned from the road

Advocate tells court 63-year-old made 'poor decision'

A Ramsey man has been banned from the road for 12 months after being caught drink driving whilst his teenage grandson was in his van.

Neil Edward Skillicorn, of Lezayre Road, was stopped by police at his home on 26 May following a tip-off.

The 63-year-old failed a roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse the court was told Skillicorn had driven to the boy’s father’s property after he threatened to leave his computer outside.

Skillicorn’s advocate said his client had consumed ‘a couple of vodkas’ earlier in the day and had thought he was OK to drive adding that it was the other man who had reported him.

Describing the incident as a ‘poor decision’ he added: “It is an unfortunate set of circumstances.”

Fining him £900, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125, High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also disqualified him from driving until he’s taken and passed an extended driving test.
