Douglas woman ordered to compensate teen she 'lured' to scene of assault

Punched 14-year-old in the face after arranging Snapchat meet

A woman from Douglas who ‘lured’ a teenager to the scene of an assault has been ordered to pay her compensation.

Deniz Maria Yenituran, of Malvern Road, was also placed under a two-year probation order.

The 20-year-old had previously admitted assaulting the girl, and causing her actual bodily harm, near to the National Sports Centre in Douglas on 7 July last year.

During sentencing the court heard Yenituran had contacted the 14-year-old girl over Snapchat, asking her to meet, after believing she’d assaulted her sister.

The teenage girl arrived at the scene of the assault at 1am – Yenituran proceeded to punch her twice in the face with a closed fist knocking her to the ground.

Another woman who was also involved in the incident, but who was not before the court, was heard saying: “Is she dead?” to which Yenituran responded: “I don’t really care.”

At 3.50am the victim attended Noble’s Hospital where she was treated for multiple bruises, a laceration to her lip and abrasions on her knees.

In police interview Yenituran told officers her sister was being bullied and had been beaten up by seven girls including the teenager she’d targeted – something she said had left her ‘heartbroken’.

Yenituran’s advocate told the court his client should not have ‘taken the law into her own hands’ adding: “She needs to learn how to deal with her emotions properly.”

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes heard there was confusion over whether the victim had suffered a broken nose adding the prosecution’s case was ‘considerably different’ to how it had been first presented.

Imposing a two-year probation order, and ordering her to pay £125 in prosecution costs and £250 in compensation, she told Yenituran: “It was a planned and pre-mediated assault.”
