Douglas man admits having £40K of cannabis sent through post

Post office staff alerted police to suspicious parcel

A court's heard a Douglas man who had £40,000 of drugs sent to him through the post is still doing community service for other offences.

Twenty-seven-year-old Stephen Graham Whittaker, of Circular Road, appeared at Douglas Courthouse.

He admitted producing cannabis, possessing it and attempting to possess it with intent to supply.

On 17 June post office staff alerted police to a suspicious parcel – inside was £39,902 worth of cannabis.

When officers went to his home to arrest him they found another six grammes of the class B drug.

Whittaker's advocate told the hearing his client used cannabis medicinally.

Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks said the case was so serious Whittaker would have to be sentenced in the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

He bailed him and committed him to the higher court where he'll appear on 22 July.
