Mayor hopes to honour 'unsung heroes' of the city

Nominations are open for Douglas Council's community awards.

There are two categories; the community champion must be a Douglas ratepayer who has made a significant difference.

And a young hero, who is under 15 years old living in Douglas and has given an 'outstanding contribution'.

The nomination criteria is 'wide open' and nominations will be accepted until 31 July after which the Mayor of Douglas and a three-person panel will choose the winners, which will be announced in September.

Mayor Natalie Byron- Teare said: "It literally is open to anyone and everyone who benefits the community or its people in a variety of different ways.

"These awards are close to my heart and that of many of my colleagues on the Council.

"They really are designed to shine the spotlight on those who go above and beyond to make a difference in the Island and make a positive contribution to the lives of others, often under the radar.

"Put simply, the Community Champion and Young Hero accolades focus on those ordinary people who make an extraordinary difference.

"We look forward to receiving as many entries as possible once again and I already know we are going to have a very difficult job selecting the winners."
