Does direct criticism and harassment on social media act as a deterrent to potential MHKs?

That was a suggestion put forward by Lord Lisvane on Thursday, as he continued his review into the functioning of Tynwald.

He was hearing evidence from political activist James Hampton, who's an advocate of "direct democracy", where members of the public would be able to vote directly on any issue.

Mr Hampton told Lord Lisvane he believed the lack of a party structure on the Island meant politicians were in a more direct line of fire from the public:
