Disqualification after being caught over drug drive limit twice

22-year-old also instructed to carry out community service

A Laxey man has been disqualified from driving for two years after being caught over the legal drug drive limit twice in three weeks.

Alexander Henderson, of Moaney Quill Close, was stopped with cannabis in his system, whilst in charge of his vehicle, on the Creg-Ny-Baa Back Road on 22 January.

Police then stopped the 22-year-old on Lakeside Road again, on 12 February, due to his ‘excessive speed’ – on that occasion he was driving whilst more than twice the legal drug drive limit.

Henderson admitted both offences – at Douglas Courthouse this week his advocate said he’d been a daily cannabis user at the time due to ‘traumatic events’ he’d experienced in his life.

She added that he recognised that doing so was ‘irresponsible’ and that he should have sought professional help for his issues rather than ‘self-medicating’.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also instructed Henderson to carry out 120 hours of community service and ordered him to pay £250 in prosecution costs.
