'Difficult decisions' to be made over climate change

Government consulting on 2022-27 climate plan

A government minister has admitted 'difficult decisions' will have to be made if the Island is to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Policy and Reform Minister Ray Harmer's comments come as government is seeking public opinions on a new climate change plan for 2022-2027.

It wants to hear what residents think about housing, energy, transport and 'blue carbon'.

'Blue carbon' is described as 'ocean-based' climate solutions - such as protecting carbon-storing habitats like seagrass.

Other ideas being mooted in the plan are banning registering new fossil fuel vehicles and light vans by 2030.

Another is bringing in energy performance certificates for homes and introducing new building regulations to allow low-carbon buildings to be created.

People have until Tuesday, 31 August to give feedback on the proposals - you can find the consultation HERE.
