DESC minister encourages student action against plastic

Graham Cregeen responds to petition from RGS council

The education minister has backed Island students taking action to remove plastic bottles from schools.

Members of Ramsey Grammar School council are presenting their petition to the chief minister at 2pm today.

It's made up of more than 450 signatures asking government to help them rid the school of plastic waste.

Education Minister Graham Cregeen has made a statement saying he encourages all Island students to reduce their single-use plastic consumption.

He adds this is in line with the government's single-use plastics reduction plan.

To facilitate the change Mr Cregeen says they're working to make sure all schools have access to water fountains.

And he says the department will keep working to help schools 'use their devolved financial management to adopt the cross-government policy'.
