New 'pedal party' event for all abilities also coming in 2023

A popular Island cycling event has confirmed it will centre its activities around the historic capital of Castletown in 2023.

The Zurich Lighthouses Challenge - a non-competitive occasion - will start and finish in Castletown Square on Sunday, 2 July.

Organisers say moving the challenge to the town is aiming to make it more accessible to riders of all abilities.

Furthermore, a new event will be added for next year called the 'Pedal Party' which will take place a day earlier on Saturday, 1 July.

Aimed at children and families primarily, it'll allow people to enjoy cycling casually on closed roads in Castletown and will be free to enter for any level of ability.

Isle of Man Cycling Development Officer, Rob Holden, explains what the new 'pedal party' will entail, and why Castletown is a good location for the whole challenge weekend in general:

The challenge events on the Sunday will see participants choose from one of three routes to take part on.

The longest course will cover 100 miles - there will also be a 50-mile half circle route and 20-mile quarter circle course.

Entries for the challenge are now open - details and how to enter is available HERE.
