Curraghs celebrate Red Panda Day

Species population has fallen by 50% in last two decades

In the last 20 years, the red panda population has declined by 50%.

The Curraghs Wildlife Park is aiming to do its bit to help the species by joining zoos across the world in celebrating International Red Panda Day today. (Sat 21)

Sara, Kush and Frisco, the park's three red pandas, will be at the heart of celebrations.

During the day, people will have the opportunity to learn about the species from experts and take part in red panda competitions.

There'll also be arts and crafts and a treasure hunt.

The annual day is the idea of the Red Panda Network, who Curraghs supports through its conservation fund.

This year, the Park is attempting to raise more than £1,000 to help protect red pandas and their habitat in the Himilayan mountain forests.

Currently as few as 2,500 remain in the wild.
