Village Africa wants to alleviate poverty
Students from Castle Rushen High School are hoping to raise £1,000 for a new ambulance for a Tanzanian charity working to alleviate poverty.
They’re taking part in the One World Centre’s ‘Charity Challenge’ which sees Year 12 students tasked with learning more about overseas charity work.
But Lucy Sloane, Freya Gelling and Dora Giummri have gone one step further and are now fundraising for Village Africa too.
The UK-registered charity is based in a village called Yamba in the West Usambara Mountains in the Tanga region.
Its work covers health, education and the environment and has one ambulance which caters to the needs of seven thousand people from three different villages:
