Cousins in the dock for cultivating cannabis

Two men will be sentenced in December

Two cousins from Douglas will be sentenced in December after admitting trying to cultivate cannabis.

Carl Francis Kelch, of Clarence Terrace, was found growing five plants under a heat lamp on 31 March.

Police had turned up at a property, on Farvane Close, let by his relative Michael John Kewley and found a locked room.

After unlocking it they discovered plants with a potential yield of between £2,800 and £8,400.

A more mature plant was also found in a wardrobe - that was said to have the potential of making £1,680.

The 33-year-old told officers he’d grown the Class B drug for his personal use and his cousin didn’t know anything about it.

Kewley, who is 41, also admitted cultivating cannabis on or about 23 May at his home address.

He was found with eight cannabis plants after police attended his rental property on 23 May – if allowed to mature they would have been worth between £5,040 and £15,120.

Social enquiry reports have been requested before the two men are sentenced on 13 December – both have been bailed until that date.
