Couple stole from four shops in a fortnight

Items were worth around £30

A man who stole from four Douglas shops in a fortnight with his girlfriend has been remanded in custody.

Thirty-one-year-old Karl Allen Cameron of Sherwood Terrace in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to four charges of theft, committed between 22 June and 6 July.

Prosecution advocate Rachel Braidwood told the court on each occasion, Cameron had been accompanied by his girlfriend Tara Lee Ashlyn Cowell of Cronk-y-Berry.

The duo stole alcohol, makeup and food during their shoplifting spree and Cowell had been jailed for three months by another court.

The hearing was told they took items from Spar stores on Douglas Promenade and Bucks Road, the Mace shop on Bathurst Street, and Boots on Strand Street.

In total, the items were worth an estimated £30, although Boots had been unable to give a value for the items it had lost.

Magistrates remanded Cameron in custody, and he's next due in court on 1 September.
