British Tunnelling Society backs plans for link

Could the Isle of Man become a hub on a tunnel connecting Great Britain with Northern Ireland?

A report in The Times claims a connection under the sea linking the two islands is possible.

Quoting the chairman of the British Tunnelling Society, the newspaper says the tunnel could start north of Liverpool, surface in the Isle of Man and go back under to reach Belfast.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has previously called for a bridge across the Irish Sea, but the society insists tunnels present fewer challenges than bridges, including being less reliant on good weather.
