Could an independent health review be on the cards?

Politicians to assess healthcare delivery

A fundamental review of the Island’s health and social care department could be given the go-ahead later today (Tuesday).

Tynwald will be asked to support a move by Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan, aimed at identifying different ways to deliver and afford a modern healthcare system.

It’s as the court prepares to vote on a £9.5 million overspend by health chiefs during the current financial year.

Yesterday (Monday) Tynwald's Public Accounts Committee published the findings of a year-long investigation into persistent overspending at the DHSC, outlining seven recommendations aimed at rebalancing the books.

Committee chairman Juan Watterson hopes the report, which identifies a number of areas for improvement, will be used to help any future assessment.

There’ll be full coverage of Tynwald on manxradio.com, on the apps and on Manx Radio AM1368 from ten thirty this morning.
