Concern over scallop fishing outside Manx waters

Fresh scallops and queenies ARE still available - despite the closure of the Island's scallop beds.

Earlier this month Manx fishermen decided to stop fishing within Manx territorial waters after the amount of scallops landed reached the agreed upper sustainable limit of 4,000 tons.

Fisheries Minister Phil Gawne says whilst he applauds the move by the industry, fishing will continue outside the Manx limits to provide the market with fresh seafood.

But ensuring THESE beds are fished responsibly is beyond his control
