Community service for man who carried out ‘despicable’ assault in front of son

32-year-old also placed under probation order

A Douglas man who assaulted his ex-girlfriend in front of their son has been ordered to carry out 120 hours of community service.

Oliver James Hamon, of Central Promenade, was found guilty of common assault following a trial.

The 32-year-old had attended the woman’s property on 14 April to collect his belongings but, once there, barged through the door knocking her to the floor.

He then threw her over his shoulder, causing her to land heavily, and shoved her – when police arrived he told them he’d only received a tenth of his possessions.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse Hamon’s advocate told the court he’d ‘lost his temper’ and he was ‘clearly in the wrong’ adding there was ‘ongoing issues’ around contact with his son.

“He accepts and regrets his actions,” his advocate told the court: “He knows there is a right and wrong way of going about things.”

Magistrates imposed a combination order which also included an 18-month probation order telling Hamon: "This was a particularly despicable event in front of your son."

Hamon must also pay prosecution costs of £1,250.
