Businesses given a year to swap out plastic straws and cutlery
A number of commonly used single use plastic items will be banned on the Isle of Man next year.
Tynwald members backed the move to make it illegal to sell or supply 10 items including plastic straws, carrier bags, cutlery and polystyrene food and drink containers.
They're said to be among the most common items found on European beaches.

Businesses have been given 12 months to adjust to the new legislation.
Around 700 people on the Isle of Man took part in a consultation last year with 90 per cent backing a ban on single use plastics.
The ban covers:
- Plastic straws
- Carrier bags
- Cutlery (including chopsticks)
- Plates
- Stirrers
- Sticks for balloons
- Food and drink containers made from expanded polystyrene
Certain toiletries containing micro-plastics and all products made from oxo-degradable plastic are also included.
Some medical products, such as plastic swabs, are exempt.
