Chimney fire in Peel

Resident helped out of property

A Peel resident had to be helped from their house this morning, following a chimney fire.

Crews from Peel and Kirk Michael were called to the property on Patrick Street at about 10am.

When they got there, they found the person who lives in the house had been assisted by a passerby, and had made it outside.

They tackled the fire from both inside the house and the roof, before checking it for hot spots.

A man was treated for smoke inhalation by the emergency services following the incident.

The fire service is reminding everyone with open fires in their homes to get their chimneys swept on a regular basis.

It prevents a build-up of soot and unburned products that remain in the flue and can lead to such fires as today's.
