Attorney General refers recent case to the Appeal Division
The Attorney General John Quinn is to refer the recent sentencing in a child abuse case, to the Appeal Division over fears of 'undue leniency'.
Charles Cover was handed an 18-month suspended sentence earlier this month after being found guilty of gross indecency and indecent assault of a minor.
Following the verdict, a petition was set up online which garnered more than 2,300 signatures, calling for the Island to introduce harsher laws for child abuse cases.
The page cited that 'many of us on the Island feel the sentences handed to such criminals are too lenient and therefore, do not protect some of the most vulnerable in our society'.
The Attorney General's Office says "as this process has been commenced we will not comment further until the outcome of the court proceedings.”
