Chief Constable gives evidence to Knottfield committee

Attorney General to appear on Monday

Chief Constable Gary Roberts will appear before the Tynwald committee investigating historical child abuse at Knottfield Children's Care Home this morning (Fri 18).

The hearing gets underway at 11:30, in the Legislative Council Chamber.

Just over two weeks ago, on Thursday 3rd May, two former residents of Knottfield gave evidence to the committee.

Christine Urquhart and John Guest were two of many victims of systematic abuse during their childhoods spent in care at the facility, which was situated on Woodbourne Road in Douglas - its residential arm officially closed in 1983.

Recounting his experiences from the sixties and seventies, Mr Guest said there should be an independent written enquiry.

On Monday, the committee will hear from the Attorney General, and Mr Andrew Johnston, a former trustee at the Children's Centre.
