‘Challenges’ to overcome in relation to exporting Manx flour

DEFA minister says government is trying to support milling wheat growers

Flour from Laxey Glen Mills is not currently being exported due to ‘challenges’ which government is trying to overcome.

That’s been confirmed by the environment, food and agriculture minister.

Clare Barber says her department is looking at ways of supporting milling wheat growers following the closure of Ramsey Bakery earlier this year.

The company was a major customer of the mill.

There is currently enough grain in the silos for well over two years and the mill is continuing to produce flour.

Treasury is the sole shareholder of the business.
