Car tax hike imminent

DoI seeking rise in vehicle duty

Car tax could be set to go up from next month, if Tynwald members give the green light this morning (Tue).

The Department of Infrastructure is seeking a 3.1% increase in vehicle duty, on top of a 6% rise approved last June.

It will mean a rise of between £3 and £8 per year for most car owners.

Under the proposals, electric vehicle drivers would continue to pay nothing.

Vehicle duty earned the DoI around £12 million in revenue last year.
