Car park deal is what's best for Douglas ratepayers

Council leader hits back over claims

 Getting the best deal for the capital’s ratepayers was behind an agreement for the Shaw’s Brow car park, says the leader of Douglas Council.

The contract between the Borough Council and the former Department of Local Government and Environment - now incorporated into the DOI – has been described by Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne as a ‘waste of taxpayers'’ money.

It stipulates the department pays for any losses incurred by Douglas Corporation at its facility up to a 30-year period.

David Christian has laughed off criticism and says the corporation was first approached by central government over the car park more than 17 years ago:
