Cannan fires film deal broadside

An MHK who's a major critic of the Pinewood Shepperton film deal has told Manx Radio he remains unconvinced by it all.

Yesterday it was confirmed by Treasury Minister Eddie Teare the agreement between his department and the studio had been signed, although the stake bought by treasury was only 10%, half of what was originally proposed and approved by Tynwald.

Michael MHK Alf Cannan wants to know why Tynwald was told by Mr Teare in June they had to approve the deal then, and couldn't wait longer, so they could consider it further, and yet it's only now been signed.

Mr Cannan feels the £12.23 million stake in the studio, and its management of the Island's £25 million film and TV fund, is little more than a vanity project:
