Camapign to sign-up Manx organ donors

More than 12,600 Islanders on UK register

A campaign to encourage more Manx residents to register as organ donors gets underway today (4 Sept).

Organisers aim to raise awareness about demand for donor organs, and the life-changing impact a donation can have.

As the campaign begins, charity Organ Donation Isle of Man has released some facts about local need.

There are nine people currently waiting for a transplant in the Island, and since 2013, six peope have died waiting for a donor organ.

More than 12,600 Island residents are on the UK organ donor register, and it's hoped the campaign will encourage more of us to do so, via a simple online process at organdonation.nhs.uk

There's a reminder that indicating an intention to donate by signing an Isle of Man driving licence, does not link through to the UK organ donation register.

Throughout the week there will be information stands at the coffee shop and staff restaurant in Noble's hospital, and in the main entrance area at Ramsey Cottage Hospital.

Bus Vannin vehicles will carry advertising to raise awareness of organ donation during September.
