Calls for police complaints reform

Constabulary finds it 'difficult to be impartial'

A former police officer has called on government to investigate a fully independent complaints procedure for the force.

Ged Power was one of four residents to present a petition for redress at Tynwald Day yesterday.

He believes recent cases have highlighted 'ineffective' oversight of officers.

Unlike in the England and Wales, complaints against the Isle of Man Constabulary are handled by a single, government-appointed representative.

Eight grievances were recorded against Manx police last year, up from five the year before.
