BUDGET: £174 million allocated for capital spending in 2022

Plus £483 million for a five year programme

One hundred and seventy four million pounds has been allocated for capital spending in 2022.

The Budget for the next financial year has also revealed a five-year capital programme - set at £483 million – which is designed to meet the aims of the Our Island Plan.

Projects highlighted include:

  • £3 million for schemes to enhance passenger facilities at the Sea Terminal, catering for 'international arrivals' at Ronaldsway Airport and a passports and immigration system.
  • £1 million for a purpose-built Sexual Assault Referral Centre
  • £9 million for measures to support climate change adaptations and the aim of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050
  • £5 million to mitigate the impact of environmental damage

Treasury Minister David Ashford said he had been 'mindful' that investment must continue in the Island's future.

He added: "We must find ways to afford to invest in new services and infrastructure to maintain and improve the quality of life here on our Island that we all value so much."

The five-year capital investment programme includes the continued roll out of the fibre optic network (£5.9m), completion of the Balthane Gateway (£1.9m) and an upgrade to King Edward Pier (£3m).

£972K has also been allocated for pre-contract and design for a new secondary school in Castletown.
