Bridgewater loses taxi contract appeal

Announcement postponed until Friday

Liverpool-based Bridgewater, the taxi firm whose tender was rejected by the Manx government to deliver Island patients to UK hospitals, has heard today its appeal against the decision has been turned down.

Bosses say they've been given 'no reason' for having it declined.

The decision sparked an outcry among patients and families loyal to Bridgewater, fearful another firm would provide a less comprehensive and caring service.

An online petition gathered well over 2000 signatures, in support of retaining the existing cab firm.

The health department said both price and quality were equally weighed in a 'necessary' tender process.

Co-owner Mark Boner says they now expect to hear tomorrow which Merseyside firm has won the contract - after previously being told a statement was due today.
