Boots pharmacy offers safe space for domestic abuse victims

Strand Street store a part of charity Hestia's campaign

Boots pharmacies are to offer safe spaces for victims of domestic abuse.

It comes as part of a campaign created by UK-based charity Hestia, which includes the Strand Street store in Douglas.

Recent reports indicate there has been a 145% rise in domestic abuse cases on the Isle of Man during the Covid-19 pandemic, and many schemes have been introduced across supermarkets, including Tesco, to allow victims to reach out for help.

From today, the Strand Street store has created a safe space within its consultation room with access to 24-hour helplines, including the National Domestic Abuse Helpline and Men's Advice Line.

Access to Hestia's mobile app will also be made available.

People who wish to use the safe space consultation room can ask a member of staff at the pharmacy counter.
