Body in Manx waters was man in blue overalls

Details emerge as identification work continues

Police in Northern Ireland are working to identify a man whose body was caught in a fishing boat's net in Manx waters earlier this week.

The decomposed body, which was in blue overalls, was discovered when the trawler 'Elegance', based at Portavogie, County Down, hauled in her nets whilst fishing for prawns at around 11pm on Monday.

Police and forensic teams examined the boat and removed the body, with a post-mortem examination due to be carried out soon.

It's thought the crew and skipper were 'badly shaken up', and have been offered help by the Fishermen's Mission charity.

The Belfast live website reports that officers are using information from the boat's tracking system to see the route it took during its trawl.

It is hoped with coastal and tidal knowledge, this may help pinpoint where the man was lost.

The fishing boat itself has now returned to sea.
