Birthday party attack lands man in court

Teen fined for unprovoked attack

A man's appeared in court over a birthday party attack which left his victim with a broken nose.

William Taisia of Park Road in Port St Mary appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing actual bodily harm in Surby on 31 October last year.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court Taisia drunkenly taunted another man about rugby at an 18th birthday party.

His victim heard others talking about Taisia, saying the 17 year old was drunk and planned to hit him.

He climbed out of a window to escape, but Taisia found him and punched him in the face in an unprovoked attack.

Defence advocate Andrew Baker described the incident as a rugby rivalry which had turned nasty.

Mrs Hughes imposed an 18-month probation order, and Taisia was also ordered to pay £50 towards prosecution costs and £500 compensation.
